Terms of Service

Effective: October 25, 2026

Revision notice: announced 2026-10-18, effective 2026-10-25. Until then the current version applies. See the version in force now

These Terms set out the rights, obligations, responsibilities and conditions of use between the operator of LecTranscribe (the "Service") and its members.

Chapter 1. General

Article 1 (Purpose and Nature of the Service)

LecTranscribe transcribes the lecture audio, video and material members upload, and builds study material from it: summaries, handwritten-style notes, concepts, quizzes, exam sheets and tutor answers. Contact: support@lectranscribe.com.

Article 2 (Generative AI Notice)

(a) Transcripts, summaries, notes, study material, tutor answers and grading are produced by other companies' artificial intelligence models (generative AI). They are AI output even where the screen does not say so. (b) AI can produce plausible statements that are untrue (hallucinations) and can mishear or miss things. The operator does not guarantee that output is accurate, complete or current. (c) The operator may mark output as AI-generated. When members post or submit output elsewhere, they are responsible for any AI-use disclosure required by law or by their school or institution.

Article 3 (Definitions)

1. Member: a person who has an agreement with the operator under these Terms and uses the Service 2. Content: audio, video, documents, photos, text and questions a member uploads or enters 3. AI output: transcripts, summaries, notes, concepts, quizzes, exam sheets, tutor answers and grading the Service makes from Content 4. Credits: the in-service unit deducted for paid features 5. Paid services: credit packs, subscriptions and other services paid for

Article 4 (Posting, Effect and Changes)

(a) These Terms take effect when posted in the Service. (b) The operator may change these Terms within the law. Changes and their effective date are announced in the Service from 7 days before they take effect; changes that are adverse or significant are announced 30 days before and also sent by email. (c) If the announcement clearly said that not objecting by the effective date counts as acceptance and the member does not object, the member is deemed to accept. A member who disagrees may close the account before the effective date. Consent to the processing of personal data is never obtained this way. (d) Anything not covered here follows the law and commercial practice.

Chapter 2. The Agreement

Article 5 (Formation)

(a) The agreement is formed when a member, having been shown these Terms and the Privacy Policy on the sign-in screen, presses a Google or Apple sign-in button and completes sign-up. Visiting the website does not form an agreement. (b) The Privacy Policy explains how personal data is processed; entering this agreement is not consent to that processing. (c) People under 14 may not sign up, and members warrant that they are 14 or older. (d) Members must sign up with their own real account. The operator may refuse sign-up, or end the agreement later, where someone else's account is used, a previous agreement was terminated for breach, the Service is plainly meant to be misused, or the law otherwise prevents acceptance.

Chapter 3. Obligations

Article 6 (Operator's Obligations)

The operator complies with the law and these Terms, works to provide the Service reliably, and protects members' personal data under the Privacy Policy.

Article 7 (Members' Obligations)

(a) Members warrant that they have the right to have the Content they upload transcribed and processed by the Service. In particular, lecture videos, course material and past exams from a school LMS may be uploaded only within the limits set by the school and rights-holders (such as personal study), and the output must not be distributed or sold. (b) A live recording can capture other people's voices, such as the lecturer's. Telling them about the recording, and getting consent where required, is the recording member's responsibility. (c) Members must not: 1. Upload Content or distribute output that infringes others' copyright, image rights, personal data or other rights 2. Use someone else's account or payment method 3. Use bots, macros, crawlers or other automated means, or overload the Service 4. Reverse-engineer, hack or circumvent the Service's code, internal data or security 5. Upload illegal material, including child sexual abuse material, or prompt the AI to produce it 6. Use output for academic misconduct such as contract cheating or ghost-written assignments 7. Do anything else that breaks the law or public order

Article 8 (Fair Use)

(a) An account is for one person. Several people must not share an account, and one person must not open several accounts to get more benefits. (b) The study tools (concepts, quizzes, 'Go deeper', exam sheets, past-paper analysis, photo grading, tutor) have per-plan allowances, shown on the pricing screen and in each study screen. Past the allowance you can continue by spending the credits shown; if the result cannot be made, the credits are returned. Example records do not count. (c) The Pro plan's 'unlimited' assumes one person's normal studying. Repeated requests far beyond that, or automated requests, may lead the operator to limit new results and tutor answers for that month. Results already made stay available. (d) To keep the Service stable, some automatic limits such as hourly request limits apply to every member alike. (e) Where abuse of this Article is confirmed, the operator may take back credits obtained improperly and restrict use under Article 17, and refunds may be limited.

Chapter 4. The Service

Article 9 (What the Service Provides)

The Service provides the following. Details may change and changes are announced in the Service. 1. Transcription: uploaded audio and video files, school LMS lectures brought in by the Chrome extension, YouTube links 2. Live recording: live captions and speaker separation while recording a lecture on the web or in the app 3. Summaries and notes: summaries and handwritten-style notes from transcripts and course material (PDFs, slides, .goodnotes and .note files) 4. Study tools: concepts, quizzes, mind maps, exam sheets, past-paper analysis, answer-photo grading, tutor 5. Organizing and sharing: projects, groups, trash, and share links only when the member turns them on 6. Credits and subscriptions, missions, referrals, promotion codes

AI output is stored only in the account that made it, and opening the same material again shows the stored result. That stored copy is never shown to other members or used to make their results.

Article 10 (Dependence on External AI Models)

The Service's core features run on other companies' AI models and speech APIs, including Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, Groq and Soniox. Their outages, policy or price changes and model replacements or shutdowns are outside the operator's control and may change output quality or pause a feature for a time. The operator works to keep the Service running, for example by switching models, and returns credits when a result could not be made for reasons on its side.

Article 11 (Changes and Interruptions)

(a) The operator may change or suspend all or part of the Service for maintenance and outage recovery, policy changes or discontinuation by external APIs or payment providers, force majeure, or business needs. (b) Scheduled interruptions are announced 7 days ahead; emergency interruptions are announced promptly after they happen. (c) If the Service shuts down permanently, the operator announces it 30 days ahead and refunds the full remaining value of unused paid credits.

Chapter 5. Content and Rights

Article 12 (Ownership and Licence)

(a) Rights in the Service itself, including its brand, design and software, belong to the operator. (b) Rights in Content stay with the member or the original rights-holder. Members may use AI output freely and the operator claims no rights in it; where output contains works from the original Content, those rights stay with their holder. (c) Members grant the operator a free, non-exclusive right to store, copy, transmit and convert Content only as needed to provide the features the member asks for. It lasts only while the Content is in the Service and ends when the member deletes it or closes the account. (d) The operator does not use Content or AI output to train AI models or recommend or show it to other members, and the external AI companies the Service uses may not train on it under their terms. (e) This licence is not a legal basis for processing personal data; personal data is processed under the Privacy Policy.

Article 13 (Duty to Check AI Output)

AI output may contain errors, especially in technical terms, proper nouns, numbers, dates, formulas, quotations and grading. Members should treat it as reference material and check it against the original lecture and material before relying on it for anything important, such as exam preparation or submitted work. Unless the operator acted intentionally or with gross negligence, members are responsible for harm from using output without checking it, and for disputes arising because their use of output infringed someone else's rights.

Chapter 6. Credits and Payment

Article 14 (Credits)

(a) Transcription costs 1 credit per minute of audio, rounded up. Live recording is free up to the weekly and daily free time shown in the Service for each plan, then 1 credit a minute. Other features, such as notes and study tools past the allowance, cost the credits shown on screen before they run. (b) Every member receives 100 free credits a week, every 7 days from the moment they signed up; free credits not used within those 7 days do not carry over and expire. While subscribed, they follow the cycle in Article 15. Completing missions, or a referred friend meeting the conditions, earns the credits shown. (c) Purchased credits, credits from missions, referrals and promotions, and signup bonus credits received before do not expire. Weekly credits (free and subscription) are spent before credits that do not expire. (d) Credit packs are sold and charged by Polar (Polar Software Inc.) as merchant of record, with the methods shown at checkout, such as cards and wallets. Credits are added as soon as payment completes. (e) Credits obtained improperly, for example by opening several accounts or inviting yourself from the same device, are taken back.

Article 15 (Subscriptions)

(a) Plans: Lite (KRW 9,900 a month or KRW 99,000 a year, 250 credits a week), Standard (KRW 19,900 or KRW 199,000 a year, 600 a week), Pro (KRW 29,900 or KRW 299,000 a year, 800 a week). An annual plan is paid once for a year (ten months of the monthly price) with the same weekly credits. While subscribed, lecture audio is kept for 120 days and transcriptions go first when the Service is busy. The amount charged is the one shown at checkout. (b) Auto-renewal: a subscription renews and is charged from the first payment date, monthly or yearly by plan, until the member turns off auto-renew. The amount, billing cycle and how to cancel and get refunds are shown at checkout before payment. Price increases, or turning a free benefit into a paid one, are emailed 30 days ahead and need the member's agreement; a member who disagrees can cancel before the next charge. (c) Weekly credits: the plan's weekly credits and the 100 free credits of Article 14(b) are granted together every 7 days from the payment that started the subscription; credits not used within those 7 days do not carry over and expire. When the subscription ends, the free credits return to the cycle counted from signup. Extra weekly credits may be given during events, to monthly plans only. (d) Cancelling: turn off auto-renew at any time, in one step, under Manage subscription on the billing page (monthly and annual). No further charges are made, and benefits continue until the paid period ends. (e) Changing plans: an upgrade applies immediately and only the difference for the remaining period is charged; a downgrade applies from the next billing date. Monthly to annual applies immediately, starting a one-year period that day and charging the annual price minus the unused part of the month; annual to monthly applies when the paid year ends. (f) Failed payments: if a renewal fails the payment provider retries for a while. Meanwhile the study tools and the free weekly credits remain available, but the plan's weekly credits, priority processing and 120-day audio retention stop; if payment never succeeds the subscription ends. Purchased credits remain.

Article 16 (Withdrawal and Refunds)

(a) Credit packs: within 7 days of purchase, unused credits can be refunded in full; if some were used, the unused part is refunded. Credits already used count as digital content consumed, and their refund is limited. (b) Subscriptions: within 7 days of the current period's payment, if no credits at all have been spent since, you can get a full refund yourself under Turn off auto-renew in the subscription area of the billing page (monthly and annual). Otherwise, for a monthly plan email support@lectranscribe.com and under the Refund Policy we refund the pro-rated fee for the remaining period minus the value of subscription credits used; an annual plan can be ended early on the billing page, refunding the amount paid this period minus the monthly list prices of the months started (never below zero, no penalty), and it ends immediately. (c) Where credits were consumed because of the operator, such as outages, data loss on our side or payment errors, they are refunded or re-granted regardless of timing. (d) If a minor paid without a legal guardian's consent, the minor or the guardian may cancel the payment as the law provides. (e) Credits received free through promotions, events or missions are not refundable. (f) Refunds go back to the original payment method through Polar. Details and how to apply are in the Refund Policy.

Article 17 (Restrictions)

If a member breaches Article 7 or 8, the operator may, depending on severity, warn, limit features, suspend use or terminate the agreement. The operator gives the reason by email and a chance to object; in urgent cases, such as spreading illegal material or seriously harming the Service, it may restrict first and notify afterwards. Restrictions are applied only after the operator has reviewed the case.

Article 18 (Closing the Account and Termination)

(a) Members may close their account at any time in Settings → Delete account. If that isn't possible (for example the member can't sign in), they may ask support (the in-app contact chat or support@lectranscribe.com), and the operator processes it after verifying their identity. (b) Closing the account immediately and permanently deletes transcripts, stored audio, notes, study material, projects and remaining credits. An active subscription ends at the same time and is not charged again. Records kept by law are handled under the Privacy Policy. (c) Refunds of unused paid credits or subscription payments must be requested under Article 16 before closing the account; closing it does not refund anything by itself. A payment still processing or a refund in progress is handled under Article 16 and the Refund Policy, and a payment that completes after deletion is, as a rule, refunded in full. (d) For 30 days after deletion the same email cannot sign up again, and signing up later does not earn the signup credits. For this, a deleted account's email is kept only as a pseudonymized hash. (e) If a member materially breaches these Terms, the operator may terminate the agreement following Article 17.

Chapter 7. Liability

Article 19 (Damages and Limits of Liability)

(a) The operator and members compensate each other for damage caused by breaching these Terms. (b) Unless it acted intentionally or with gross negligence, the operator is not liable for damage caused by force majeure, the member's own fault, or outages at external companies. (c) The operator's responsibility for the accuracy of AI output is limited as set out in Articles 2 and 13. (d) Unless the operator acted intentionally or with gross negligence, its liability is capped at the amount it actually received from that member in the preceding 12 months, and for members who only used the Service free of charge at the minimum the law allows, except where the law does not permit such a limit.

Chapter 8. Miscellaneous

Article 20 (Notices)

The operator notifies members by their sign-up email or in-app notices. Notices to all members may be made by posting in the Service for at least 7 days, but matters adverse or significant to members are notified individually.

Article 21 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Disputes are to be resolved through good-faith discussion; failing that, by the court with jurisdiction under the Korean Civil Procedure Act. Members may also apply for mediation to a body such as the Korea Consumer Agency.
